Rangers beat Dundee United in SPL clash

Nikica Jelavic and Kyle Lafferty celebrate against Dundee United
Jelavic and Lafferty both scored in the first half at Ibrox

Rangers moved to touching distance of the Scottish Premier League trophy with a 2-0 win over Dundee United.

Nikica Jelavic scored after 21 minutes - and four minutes later Kyle Lafferty made it two.

They moved four points clear at the top of the table in manager Walter Smith's last Ibrox match. He hands over to Ally McCoist at the end of the season

The impressive defeat means that Dundee United cannot catch third-from-top Hearts.

And the reigning champions' win means Celtic must now avoid defeat by Hearts on Wednesday if they are to ensure the title race goes to the final round of matches on Sunday.
