Russia's Arctic foxes under threat from red foxes

A red fox in north Russia

Russia's Arctic foxes are under threat from a red foxes whose population is getting bigger, scientists say.

For the first time, a red fox has been seen intruding on an Arctic fox breeding den in Russia.

The Arctic fox had to leave its den and give it to the intruder, leaving the pups to fend for themselves.

Researchers reckon this shows red foxes are getting rid of Arctic foxes as a warming climate means they can survive much further north.
