New York zoo loses deadly cobra

A cobra, like this one, has got lost at an NYC zoo

A deadly Egyptian cobra has escaped its home inside a New York zoo.

Since the snake disappeared on Friday a snake hunt has been launched and the entire reptile section has been shut down.

She's a tricky lady to spot because she's only 50cm long and as thin as a pencil.

Jim Breheny from the Bronx Zoo said: "It has sought out a secure hiding spot within the Reptile House... this may take days or even weeks.

"Our best strategy is patience, allowing her time to come out of hiding."

But he said New Yorkers don't need to start checking under their beds. "We remain confident that the snake is contained within the Reptile House."
