PICTURES: Bomb dogs sniffing out trouble!

Duke the sniffer dog

When Ore went out to Afghanistan he didn't just meet the humans who live on the British military camps...

Duke the sniffer dog

Meet Duke. He's a sniffer dog who works in Camp Bastion. It's his job to check all the vehicles coming into and out of the base.

Duke the sniffer dog

He's been trained to sniff out explosives which outsiders might be trying to smuggle into the camps.

Duke the sniffer dog

He lives on the base with his handler Private Sititson. But he isn't the only hound who's giving the military a paw in Afghanistan...

Troy the explosive search dog

This is Troy - he's helping the army in a different way. He's an arms explosive search dog.

Troy the explosive search dog

Instead of staying on the base like Duke, Troy helps soldiers out on the front-line by sniffing out any weapons that might have hidden by the Taliban.

Having a dog on the front-line isn't a new idea. Pooches have been used to help armies since before the Romans!
