London 2012: Velodrome - first Olympic venue is ready!

It's not long now until the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games - and the velodrome is the first venue in London's Olympic Park to be finished!

Building work on the velodrome - a special venue for cycling -started two years ago.

It's cost around 94 million. Hopefully Britain will be winning lots of medals in it next year!

The velodrome is being tested out by members of the British team, who won seven track cycling golds at the last Olympic Games.

As the British cycling team did really well in the last Olympic Games, tickets to come to this velodrome and watch the cycling next year are expected to be high in demand.

The track's made from a special wood and the organisers say it's the fastest track in the world.

A team of 26 carpenters took eight weeks to install the track...

... and more than a whopping 350,000 nails were used to secure the wooden surface.

It's also got 6,000-seats - these ones are still wrapped up!

British cycling star Sir Chris Hoy worked with designers and architects in preparing the venue - he's got four Olympic medals so he knows a thing or two about cycling!

And after the Olympic and Paralympic Games are over, the plan is for the velodrome to be used by the local community as well as top athletes.
