The timetable for the London 2012 Olympic events has been released by the Games' organisers.

The women's football will kick off the sporting action on 25 July in Cardiff, Glasgow and Coventry.

Two days later on 27 July the Games will officially open with an opening ceremony at the main stadium in London.

The middle weekend already looks unmissable, with British trio Jessica Ennis, Christine Ohuruogu and Paula Radcliffe going for gold.

The men's 100m final, with speed machine Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt most likely at centre stage, will happen on Sunday 5 August.

The dates, times, venues and prices for more than 600 events in the 26 Olympic sports will be emailed to the 2.2m people who've already signed up for info.

The tickets go on sale on 15 March.

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe described them as the "greatest tickets on earth for the greatest show on earth".
