Downing Street finally gets a cat for PM David Cameron

Why the rats on Downing Street should be worried!

Downing Street has finally decided to get a rat-catching cat for the Prime Minister's London residence.

A few weeks ago rats were spotted live on TV running across David Cameron's doorstep.

People who work for the PM at Downing Street thought a cat could end their rat-related problem.

Well now their wishes have been answered with a new furry feline! Larry the tabby is a rescue cat from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London.

Time for the PM to get a cat?

Larry was introduced to the world's media on Monday afternoon.

He's the first cat in more than 10 years to take up the role and he's been chosen personally by the Camerons.

The people who looked after Larry at Battersea said he had a "strong predatory drive" and enjoyed playing with toy mice, so they reckon he'll be a good rat-catcher.

A spokesman said: "Before coming to Battersea, he was a stray, so he is used to fending for himself on the streets."
