Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says he's shocked and can't understand why Wayne Rooney has asked to leave Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of United's Champions League match, he denied reports that he'd argued with the star striker but confirmed that Rooney DOES want to go.
Sir Alex said: "We are as bemused as anyone can be, we can't quite understand why he would want to leave."
Earlier, Rooney had to be stretchered out of training with an ankle injury.

As a result, Sir Alex said he would not play in Wednesday's match against Bursaspor.
Rooney's current contract lasts until the summer of 2012, but it's now looking unlikely that he'll stay at Old Trafford until then.
Explaining the situation to reporters, Sir Alex looked stunned by Rooney's decision but said the club's keeping their offer of a new contract open.
"We feel we have to keep the door open for him simply because he's such a good player," he said.
"We've done nothing but help him since he's come to the club."
