Liverpool FC gets new owner New England Sports Ventures

Liverpool's Anfield Stadium

Exciting news for Liverpool fans - the club has finally got a new owner, the American company that owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

New England Sports Ventures (NESV) have officially taken over from Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Hicks and Gillett had been trying to stop the deal, but backed down on Friday morning.

John Henry from NESV said he was really proud, promising: "We're here to win, we'll do whatever it takes."

John Henry said he was incredibly proud to be the new owner of Liverpool.

He also admitted they had a lot to learn, saying: "We're going to do a lot of listening."

It's hoped the deal will mean the club can buy new players and maybe a new stadium.

And that's good news for fans as Liverpool's already had its worst start for 50 years and is stuck in the relegation zone.

But former owners Hicks and Gillett aren't happy.

They say the deal isn't legal and are threatening to go to court again to try to get £1BILLION in damages!
