Wayne Rooney says he's had no ankle injury this season

Wayne Rooney and Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson

Wayne Rooney said he's NOT had an ankle injury this season - even though Man United boss Alex Ferguson said he had!

The striker didn't play in United's recent games at Valencia and Sunderland, with Ferguson putting it down to Rooney hurting his ankle.

But when asked about his fitness Rooney said: "No, I've had no ankle problem all season."

Confused? Seems you're not alone. When asked why Ferguson said he's injured, Rooney replied: "I don't know."

Rooney hasn't been playing at his best lately - he's scored just one goal for United this season, a penalty against West Ham in August.

But Rooney says he just needs to carry on working hard: "I'll keep doing my training and I'm sure the goals will come."
