Who is the Pope?

The Pope

The Pope's name is Joseph Ratzinger.

He is known as Benedict XVI.

He was born on 16 April 1927 and is from Germany.

He was born into a farming family in Bavaria, but his father was a policeman.

Joseph Ratzinger has been a head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since 1981 - this is the Vatican's guardian of orthodoxy.

This means he helped protect the traditional values the Vatican believe in.
