Glee gets just four Emmy Awards

Glee actress Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester

TV show Glee has won just four Emmy Awards despite having 19 nominations.

Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester, was named best supporting actress in a comedy and Glee creator Ryan Murphy won a directing award at Sunday's ceremony.

The show got two more prizes the week before at the Creative Emmys - one for a guest role from Neil Patrick Harris and another for sound mixing.

Sunday's event opened with a Glee-style performance featuring some of the Glee stars and other well known US celebs.

The Emmy Awards recognise the best TV in America.

Show boss Ryan Murphy highlighted how important it was for kids to learn arty subjects at school.

He said: "I would like to dedicate this to all of my teachers who taught me how to sing and finger paint."
