Chicken lays a giant egg

Rainbow's giant egg next to a normal-sized one

It's no yolk - a chicken in Gloucestershire has laid an egg double the usual size.

Rainbow the hen did a cracking job laying the egg, which weighs in at 130g - more than double an average-sized egg, which weighs about 56g.

Rainbow's owner Jeremy Power said: "On Saturday, Rainbow was on top form. I opened up the chicken house and there was this enormous egg.

"It's almost like a comedy egg it was so big."

Rainbow's hasn't quite beaten the world record though - that belongs to a hen in the USA.

It laid an egg with a double yolk and double shell, which weighed in at a whopping 454g.

Ouch!
