School is given extra cash

Sonali and Michael Gove

Sonali v the government on schools

Earlier this summer we did a special programme on why the government had told lots of schools there was no money left for new buildings.

Loads of you sent in pictures of your classrooms and complained about what a mess they were in.

So we took Zoe and her friends to meet the government minister in charge of schools and buildings, Michael Gove.

But since our report, Zoe's school's been told it WILL now get the cash it needs for new school buildings.

Teacher Sarah Brack said: "Our teachers and students have been working to try to get us new classrooms for the past three years.

'Absolutely thrilled'

"We didn't think it was ever going to happen and then we got a phone call saying the building work is going to start in April next year."

She added: "The kids are absolutely thrilled about it. And we want to thank Newsround for reporting our story because that really helped."
