Mo Farah wins Britain's first European 10,000m gold

British athletes Mo Farah and Chris Thompson

British runner Mo Farah has won Great Britain's first ever European 10,000m gold at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

His mate and fellow Brit Chris Thompson snatched silver in a photo finish with Italy's Daniele Meucci.

Farah was really happy with his win: "This means so much to me."

Farah and Thompson now have their eyes on the 5,000m. The pair went back to their hotel for an ice bath to make sure they're fit for Thursday's heats.

Somalia-born Farah narrowly lost out on a gold medal in the 5,000m at the last European Championships four years ago in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He said: "To wait for four years after last time is not easy, I gave 100% then but got beaten by a better man."

But this time Farah even had time towards the end of the race to turn around and egg on his teammate Thompson.

Thompson said afterwards: "To finish second to this guy [Farah] is an absolute honour. This is my gold medal right here."
