Spain want Paul the octopus

Paul the octopus

Paul - an octopus in demand!

Spain want to buy Paul the 'psychic' octopus after he correctly predicted they would win the World Cup.

Madrid Zoo made a 'transfer bid' for Paul after he became a national hero for saying Spain would win.

But Paul lives at a Sea Life aquarium in Germany and his keepers there say he is not for sale.

They said Paul had retired after his World Cup success and he would now spend the rest of his life at the aquarium, "making children smile".

But staff at Madrid Zoo have apparently said they'll beat any offers that have been made for Paul, and they might even give some of their own animals in exchange for him.

Paul correctly predicted the results of all seven of Germany's games, as well as the Spain v Netherlands final.

When the tournament ended, staff presented him with his own model of the World Cup trophy, complete with treats.

During the tournament, Paul made his predictions by choosing a snack from one of two boxes that were put in his tank showing the flags of the sides playing.
