In pics: The army plane with no pilot

When we first saw this picture, we thought a spaceship had landed on Earth! Then we read a bit more about it... and found out it's a new army plane.

It's called 'Taranis' after the Celtic god of thunder, and the army hope it'll be the plane of the future.

The model will test whether it's possible to fly without a pilot on bombing missions far away. It took THREE MILLION man-hours to make.

The planes will be controlled by highly trained soldiers on the ground. Trial flights will begin in early 2011.
