Should school skirts be banned?

School skirts

Skirts are being banned at a school in Yorkshire because lots of pupils are wearing them too short.

From September, girls in years 7-10 at St Aidan's High School in Harrogate have been told they'll have to wear trousers as part of their uniform instead.

So what do you think of the skirt ban? Is the school right, or should girls have a choice?

If you're a girl would you rather wear a skirt or trousers at school? Maybe you think a skirt ban will make life easier as you don't have to worry about how long to wear it?

If you're a boy, we want to know what you think about the ban too!

This topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.

Your comments

"I think that girls should be allowed to choose whether or not they want to wear skirts. If they choose to do so, then there should be teachers checking that they are the right length and if not, then they get a detention or have to wear trousers for a week. You have to give the girls a choice in this."

Molly, 14, London, England

"I think some girls wear skirts that are too short but that's their choice. Schools shouldn't stop everyone from wearing skirts just because of some people."

Holly, 14, Northampton, England

"School skirts shouldn't be banned because skirts are part of the school uniform. You shouldn't wear skirts too long or too short but just right."

Teighan, 13, East Ayrshire, Scotland

"I agree you shouldn't wear them short but you shouldn't ban them!"

Lara, 10, London, England

"Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. We can wear them the way we want to and it doesn't affect our learning so why bother changing it?"

Sophie, 14, West Sussex, England

"Banning school skirts is ridiculous. It will make girls rebel more. Wearing a uniform is bad enough."

Danielle, 14, West Sussex, England

"I don't think short skirts should be banned because that isn't fair. Other people shouldn't decide what we wear, they don't have the right to do it!"

Channa, 12, County Durham, England

"School skirts shouldn't be banned because it's nice to have a choice. Why can't we wear shorts after primary school?"

Amy, 13, North Yorkshire, England

"I don't think skirts should be banned because trousers can cost more than skirts and be harder for parents to buy. I wear skirts to school all the time and no-one gets into trouble for having them up too high."

Meg, 10, Renfrewshire, Scotland

"At my school we ALL have to wear regulation grey kilts and they HAVE to be sitting on the knee or you get sent home to get changed!"

Victoria, 13, Cheshire, England

"It's nice to have the choice. Why after primary school is it that I am not allowed to wear shorts?"

Matthew, 12, Staffordshire, England

"I don't think school skirts should be banned, I just think they should be worn at the right length. Girls have the right to wear their school uniform as that is what separates the boys from the girls."

Alice, 11, Surrey, England

"Girls at my school can wear skirts if they like but not shorts! Loads of them wear trousers and DON'T look like boys. I think trousers are fine for girls to wear."

Kris, 13, North Lanarkshire, Scotland

"I think everyone has a right to wear whatever they want."

Carrianne, 13, Neath Port Talbot, Wales

"I go to an all girls, Scottish school and we wear kilts. No way they will ban them at our school. I don't think skirts should be banned unless it gets to extreme circumstances."

Katie, 11, Scotland

"Girls wear skirts and boys wear trousers. If this school doesn't like skirts being too short, then why not get a longer type in the school uniform? Maybe they could wear tights in school too. Girls should have the right to wear girl clothes."

Natalie, 12, Lancashire, England

"I am not really a fan of skirts but I think the school should just make the skirts longer for girls who like to wear them."

Tamsin, 12, Liverpool, England

"I don't think they should ban skirts, just make them longer. I understand that they are worried but we are independent. The teachers can't decide what we wear."

Malaika, 10, London, England

"I don't think skirts should be banned. What these girls decide to do is their business and it doesn't have any effect on learning anyway."

Rick, 14, London, England

"I do NOT think they should be banned. I wear skirts all the time and they are NOT too high."

Alison, 12, Leeds, England

"Why should school skirts be banned? If you're a girly girl you would not like to be wearing trousers, especially on a hot day."

Riann, 8, Birmingham, England

"I think that they should not be banned completely but if girls do wear them too high teachers should talk to them or ban them individually."

Sophie, 11, Surrey, England

"I agree that girls do wear them too short but won't it be too warm to wear trousers?"

Lizzie, 12, Cambridge, England

"I don't think skirts should be banned because if boys get to wear shorts and trousers, girls should be able to wear trousers and skirts."

Maylaka, 10, West Sussex, England

"Girls should be allowed to wear skirts because they should be able to choose what they wear."

Beth, 14, Cornwall, England

"I think they should be banned because they are annoying and some people wear them too high or too long!"

Poppy, 12, London, England

"I would definitely prefer a skirt. I would just feel myself and I think they're just being a bit silly. A girl should have a choice of what they're allowed to wear. If their skirt is too short then they should have to wear trousers for a month."

Laura, 11, Surrey, England

"This is a ridiculous idea! Boys and girls will no longer be individual!"

Jessica, 14, Wolverhampton, England

"Yes, because I always get chewing gum on my skirt and it takes ages to get off!"

Jade, 14, Leicestershire, England

"No! How would boys like it they were not allowed to wear trousers?!"

Imogen, 14, London, England

"That is soo unfair. I wear my skirt like that and in the winter I wear tights. It is just stupid."

Noor, 12, Glasgow, Scotland

"I can see his point but banning the skirts is just a bit extreme. If we want to wear them then we have already thought about the risks."

Mollie, 14, Perth, Scotland

"I don't think skirts should be banned. I believe that everyone should have the right to wear any kind of school uniform, whatever gender they are."

Lydia, 11, Shropshire, England

"How ridiculous!! It's MY choice how I wear MY skirt and I don't see how that affects anyone else!!"

Catherine, 13, Devon, England

"They shouldn't ban school skirts but maybe they should make them a little bit longer."

Tahyra, 10, London, England

"Wow! If my school banned skirts I would be really unhappy! Girls should have a right. It is far too hot some days to wear trousers! I normally wear skirts or at our school we're allowed to wear dresses!"

Taylor, 11, Manchester, England

"If girls wear their skirts too high too many times, make them wear trousers and if they don't, talk to their parents."

Jessica, 11, Manchester, England

"School skirts shouldn't be banned but there should be a certain length."

Emma, 9, Perth, Scotland

"No they should not. It might be a VERY hot day and if they need to wear trousers they will be boiling!"

Dani, 12, Bristol, England

"I think girls should get the chance to wear skirts but they should not be too short!"

Courtney, 11, Brighton, England

"I don't think they should be banned, but girls who wear them too short should get a letter sent home or a phone call home to inform their parents about it."

Becky, 12, Brighton, England

"Our school wears their skirts shorter than they're meant to be, but we just get detention! I'd rather wear a skirt!"

Roni, 12, Birmingham, England

"I think that girls should carry on wearing school skirts because most girls feel uncomfortable wearing trousers - and want too look like a girl!"

Sophie, 12, London, England

"No I don't think school skirts should be banned but I agree some girls do wear skirts that are not long enough."

Holly & Eleni, 10, Chichester, England

"How does the length of skirts stop our learning in any way? I go to an all girls school and nearly everyone has a fairly short skirt, and we have guidelines as to where the skirt should be. The school's ban is totally unnecessary."

Katherine, 14, Middlesex, England

"This is actually ridiculous. If girls want to wear short skirts, LET THEM! I am someone who wears a short skirt generally, and there is NO way I'm wearing trousers because some people think that we're at risk! IT'S OUR PROBLEM, NOT YOURS!"

Lauren, 14, Watford, England

"I think the skirt ban is ridiculous. Everyone at my school agrees too. If we feel we are being put at risk or our parents think that, then we will be told and we will do something about it. This will just make girls rebel and that will cause an even bigger problem."

Evie, 14, Watford, England

"Girls have a right to wear what they want."

Khadija, 12, Manchester, England

"I think skirts should NOT be banned!"

Zaynab, 9, Birmingham, England

"This is a silly idea. We're allowed to wear skirts, it makes us girls! I'm NOT dressing like a boy."

Mollie, 14, London, England

"In my opinion skirts shouldn't be banned, but regulated. Meaning the school could make sure the girls in the class are wearing an appropriate length skirt by measuring them. This should especially be the case in mixed schools so as to avoid boys and girls being distracted by one another. Banning skirts would just cause students to be rebellious and not concentrate during the summer term."

Emilia, 14, London, England

"We bought the uniform so we should wear it as we please. If students have to wear trousers then the female teachers should too."

Millie, 13, Surrey, England

"I think girls should be able to wear skirts. What about when there's hot weather, are they still expected to wear trousers? Boys wear shorts so we should be able to wear skirts!"

Rose, 11, Norfolk, England

"I think that banning school skirts will create more problems than it is solving, because pupils will not be able to wear skirts in the summer when it is the hottest."

Rachel, 14, Watford, England

"I would rather wear a skirt. It is a sign of feminism for me and I would hate to wear trousers."

Alicia, 12, London, England

"I can't believe that the headmaster is banning skirts. My friend told me about this and I was shocked. In my school we wear our own clothes every day and I love it. I would hate to wear a uniform and double hate to wear trousers!!"

Eliza, 12, New York, USA

"This is an absolute outrage, I am appalled and disgusted with this headmasters decision! Girls should be able to wear skirts and I am sure it is not the majority of people, so just be stricter! I feel soooo sorry for these girls!"

Tori, 14, Sydney, Australia

"This is an outrage. What is wrong with students wearing skirts! People should be able to wear skirts if they wish. I feel sorry for the girls who go to this school. If they banned skirts at my school I would be furious!"

Josephine, 13, Glasgow, Scotland

"I think they should not be banned. If a girl wants to look ridiculous that her own decision. I wear my skirt knee length."

Milly, 11, Coventry, England

"I think we should be allowed to wear skirts, although people who abuse the rules should have to wear trousers so it doesn't ruin it for those who do follow the rules."

Annabelle, 12, Yorkshire, England

"I think that skirts shouldn't be banned because wearing a skirt DOES NOT affect our education. Teachers just over react and make a big deal over nothing. IT'S RIDICULOUS. I think that there shouldn't even be a school uniform, we should be able to show our own personal style and who we are."

Chloe & Megan, 13, Essex, England

"I think that this is diabolical because you go to school to learn and surely what you wear does not affect your learning at all."

Alice, 14, Middlesex, England

"This is diabolical. Girls should have the freedom to wear skirts or trousers. There isn't even a reason for it."

Janette, 14, Colchester, England

"I think it is completely out of order that they have banned skirts. The school should be concerned on more important things, like education. It is extremely unfair and should be sorted out immediately."

Laura, 12, Yorkshire, England

"In our English lesson we talked about this and the whole class were laughing! It's so stupid to not be allowed to wear short skirts!"

Chox, 12, Berlin, Germany

"My school had the same problem. Now if girls choose to wear skirts they have to wear black tights at all times, which is unfair because it gets too hot in summer."

Katie, 13, Doncaster, England

"Who cares? School is still about learning. Teachers should look past that and focus on the education. Everybody does want to look fashionable don't they?!"

Sophy, 10, Burnley, England

"I don't think they should be banned because they look nice and trousers don't look great as a uniform."

Aisling, 10, Dublin, Ireland

"That's not fair, boys get to wear shorts! Anyway it's only some girls that wear them too short, it's not fair on the rest."

Francesca, 11, Cumbria, England

"By banning the skirts, the UK Schools are just going to cause chaos. No one will like this and students will fight against the silly ban. Why bring that on?"

Bethany, 13, Côtes-d'Armor, France

"They should be banned because girls could wear them inappropriately and make other girls feel upset about their own body."

Zeena, 13, Northamptonshire, England

"I think the ban is silly. Why are trousers being used as a punishment? Why don't they just let the kids choose?"

Susie, 12, Buckinghamshire, England

"I think girls should be allowed to wear skirts in summer, when it's hot but not in winter because it is cold."

Ab, 11, Cumbria, England

"They shouldn't be banned! Not all girls wear their skirts too short and people have the right to make their own decisions."

Kathryn, 13, Highland, Scotland

"I don't think skirts should be banned because girls have rights and they look really nice."

Tom, 13, London, England

"I can see both points of view because girls do wear skirts too short but it's up to them. They're the ones who have got to wear them, not the head teachers!"

TJ, 11, Portsmouth, England

"I think strongly that school skirts shouldn't be banned because I love wearing skirts and don't like wearing trousers. Girls should have a choice!"

Niamh, 11, Glasgow, Scotland

"I wear a skirt. As long as girls don't hitch them up too high they're fine."

Marie, 13, London, England

"No way! What about the girls that don't like to wear trousers?"

Meghan, 8, Essex, England

"I think there should be a choice but don't go around with them so short, it's not respectable!"

Catherine, 13, County Kerry, Ireland

"I don't care what anybody says, I'm wearing a skirt. All the teachers wear short skirts and dresses. I think it's really sexist making us be like the boys."

Abbie, 14, Birmingham, England

"Skirts shouldn't be banned but something should be done about girls wearing them so short."

Emily, 10, England

"Girls are used to skirts, we feel comfortable in them. It's so unfair because boys can wear shorts if they like and I bet that they wouldn't ban boys from wearing their shorts. Plus, girls often wear tights underneath their skirts."

Evey, 11, Chester, England

"I think that girls have a right to wear skirts and that headmaster is bonkers."

Poppy, 9, East Sussex, England

"I think skirts should be banned because girls roll them up too high and it is not pleasant to look at in class!"

Chloe, 10, West Sussex, England

"Just because somebody does something wrong, EVERYBODY, including the people that are doing things right, has to suffer. That's such a stupid principle."

Joanne, 10, Manchester, England

"At my school we are supposed to have knee length skirts but we roll them up. No one wears trousers as we have to wear BOTTLE GREEN TROUSERS!"

Jessica, 12, Hertfordshire, England

"Girls should have the right to wear what type of uniform they want. It is unfair for people to make up rules that no one likes. I can understand that some skirts can be too short or too tight but still, the school made the uniform."

Emily, 12, London, England

"Girls should totally be able to choose what they wear, they have a right to! Punishments should be made if they push the limit by how high they wear their skirts."

Lolli, 11, Buckinghamshire, England

"At my school we have to wear skirts but there has just been a knee length rule introduced but it really doesn't work."

Cara, 11, Plymouth, England

"There was a time when girls could only wear skirts. Then they gave us the right to wear whatever we want. If they take away that right isn't it sending us backwards? Sometimes short skirts make girls feel more confident because they feel comfortable in what they are wearing. If you make them wear trousers it could affect their self esteem. I personally prefer trousers but I like the fact that if I want to wear a skirt then I would be able to."

Aisha, 13, Scotland

"That is so not fair! Poor girls! If that were me, I would be really angry! They shouldn't be banned because they give girls a choice of what to wear. To have the decision taken away from you is horrible!"

Keisha, 14, Northamptonshire, England

"Of course if the school want to stop girls wearing inappropriate clothes they can! If there's a small bunch of girls doing this, then it is a bit unfair, but if it's a majority the school is right to do this. I wish they would do something like this in my school, just so all the girls who wear their skirts at an absurdly short length realise how lenient the school actually is."

Maddy, 13, Dorset, England

"To be honest, some of the girls wear their skirts disgustingly short and although there are bans and limits they don't work. You can't put hundreds of girls in detention for short skirts. I wear trousers and am sick of seeing really short skirts where I live so I think it's fair. They were given enough warnings."

Heather, 14, North Yorkshire, England

"NO! If it's hot, you need to wear a skirt. You can wear a skirt if you want to, no-one can change the way you want to look!"

Pippa, 10, Reading, England

"This is actually really unfair. Girls have a right to wear what they want and in summer they are going to be really uncomfortable in trousers. It is the school's responsibility to make sure this doesn't happen. The action they have taken is inappropriate."

Jade, 12, London, England

"I think it's stupid. It will get far too hot in summer. Why not do a regular skirt check? That's what they do at my school."

Leanne, 12, London, England

"I think having this ban will work. Imagine if you didn't have uniform and you had to wear different things every day! This ban keeps it simple for everyone so no-one has to worry."

Jamie, 14, Leicester, England

"At my school the girls pull their skirts up because they have to wear them near their knees. If girls could wear skirts slightly higher then they wouldn't pull them right up. They are just making a point!"

Joe, 12, Kent, England

"It's silly. At my school we are told to pull our skirts down if they are too high. If they don't want to do that then every pupil should be made to have a spare pair of trousers. If their skirt is too high then they should be made to wear the trousers. It will be boiling in the summer to wear trousers and it isn't fair to punish those who don't have their skirt too high."

Abi, 13, East Sussex, England

"I think we should be able to wear skirts because if it's the summer then we will be really hot!!!"

Sinead, 11, Coventry, England

"I'm sorry but I think what you wear does affect your learning, as you are so worried about what you're going to wear to school. I think there should be ONE uniform for every school and they should stick to it."

Hannah, 13, Cardiff, Wales

"I think it's really unfair. I have a short skirt and nearly every girl at my school has one. I think girls should be able to wear whatever skirts they want!"

Izzy, 12, Oxfordshire, England

"It's summer and it's boiling and most people wear tights anyway, so having skirts is a good idea - but shorts also let you cool down and you can't roll them up! Lots of people roll up the skirts which looks silly. I feel more comfortable in trousers and shorts."

Liza, 13, Manchester, England

"Girls may have their skirts too short or too tight, but don't boys wear their trousers right down their legs?!"

Kate, 12, West Midlands, England

"Well, uniform has been, and always will be, a controversial subject. I do not think it's fair to ban skirts. How you dress is how you choose to express yourself and expression is freedom - a human right."

Emma, 13, Bucks, England

"I really don't see why?! A lot of trousers don't fit me properly because I'm short. Why weren't they just stricter on the length instead of banning them completely?!"

Ellie, 14, Birmingham, England

"They should NOT be banned. If my school banned skirts I would actually leave school!"

Sophie, 13, Manchester, England

"I don't think they should be banned because it gets WAY too hot in the summer time. I think the school should make a rule, such as the skirt should be just above the knee. My school has made this rule."

Anieya, 14, Denbighshire, Wales

"No. I think it is pathetic to ban school skirts. Girls have a right and they should have a choice!"

Paige, 13, Uxbridge, England

"Some girls wear their skirts way too high just to try and look cool! I don't think that skirts should be totally banned, they should just make the girls not wearing them properly wear trousers."

Jade, 10, London, England

"Skirts should NOT be banned, they should just be made longer!"

Tayla-Ann, 13, Northampton, England

"If they were not wearing the skirts properly then it serves them right!"

Danie, 13, Berkshire, England

"Just another ridiculous rule! As a boy I would not like being forced to wear a skirt, so girls should not be made to wear trousers."

Tom, 14, Stoke, England

"I think skirts should be banned. Girls wear them too short. I mean, you go to school to learn - not to show yourself off. If you're really bothered about wearing short skirts wear them in your own time."

Amy, 14, London, England

"If the teachers don't like the skirts too short then they should ask them to stop rolling them up! It always works at my school!"

Annabel, 12, Stockport, England

"I think it's kind of silly, banning skirts and enforcing trousers! Girls should have the right to choose!!"

Cathryn, 14, Bath, England

"That's really unfair! What's wrong with girls having short skirts if they want to? Schools can't control everything!"

Emily, 12, Eastbourne, England

"It would be too difficult to give all the girls that wear their skirts high a detention, but when you get older you will appreciate it. Girls may have rights - but we have rights to be safe on the street!"

Megan, 13, Yorkshire, England

"Has the world gone crazy? Of course it's OK to wear skirts. All you have to do is wear them at an appropriate length. If you wear it too short then you should get a warning mark in your log book or something!"

Hannah, 12, Kidderminster, England

"I don't think skirts should be banned as they show femininity and give girls more choice, but there should be a certain length your skirt has to be. At my school it is mid-thigh length and I think this is VERY reasonable."

Daisy, 12, Leicester, England

"I think girls should have a right. Boys wear their trousers down to their ankles so I don't know why they don't let girls wear their skirts shorter! Obviously this shouldn't be permanent because more girls feel more comfortable in skirts and not trousers."

Josie, 11, East Sussex, England

"I think that skirts should not be banned because although some girls wear them too short, we should begin to have freedom on what to wear."

Emily, 12, Newcastle, England

"I have worn a skirt all year because it's much more comfortable. It is better because it's a choice of what you want to wear and what you feel more comfortable in. This is really silly. The school should have a length of what they want the skirts to be!"

Tooni, 14, Newport, Wales

"I don't see the point, not all girls wear them too high! And if you're wearing tights underneath, that's alright and other people shouldn't have to wear trousers just because of SOME girls!"

Nahida, 12, London, England

"I understand that some people wear their skirts too short, but I think it is a bit mean to penalise people who just wear them at the normal length."

Abi, 14, Yorkshire, England

"Skirts are totally cool! And just because some girls wear them short, not all girls should have to suffer - that's silly! What about all of the girls who wear their skirt at an appropriate length? I can't believe this, this is an outrage! The school could be stricter with the length of the skirt, but for them to be taken away altogether is horrible."

Sashmika, 11, London, England

"I think the skirts should not be banned. The school should've let out a warning, saying if the short skirts carry on getting short, they'll ban them. Then the girls would put them back to the appropriate length. Banning them is quite over the top."

Myra, 12, Huddersfield, England

"I think it's silly because they said SOME girls wear them too short. Some wear them alright. If they were to just send the letter to the parents saying what the issue was maybe then not EVERYONE has to suffer. I feel more comfortable in skirts than I do in trousers."

Georgya, 12, Hampshire, England

"What about all of the girls who wear their skirt at an appropriate length? Girls should have the freedom, plus it would just be boring if everybody wore trousers! I think girls should be able to wear either!"

Harriet, 12, Leeds, England

"I can't believe this! This is an outrage! The school could be stricter with the length of the skirt, but for them to be taken away all together is horrible. Skirts are a way for girls to show their feminine side. It is horrible for girls to only have one type of bottoms to wear, the school will look bland and boring. I am definitely against this idea, as a girl who loves skirts."

Shauna, 11, Inverness, Scotland

"Half of the people in the school are wearing tights, it seems silly not to allow skirts as it's boiling in the summer."

Rebecca, 12, Glasgow, Scotland

"I hate wearing skirts at school, I don't feel comfortable and I think wearing trousers will make my life easier."

Haf, 13, Blackburn, England

"I think that you could be pushing it a bit if your skirt is VERY short but there is no need to ban skirts. Wearing a skirt doesn't affect your concentration, so why ban them?!"

Saffron, 13, Conwy, Wales

"NO WAY!! GIRLS HAVE A RIGHT!"

Cara, 11, Falkirk, Scotland

"Even though I don't wear a skirt some of my friends can't find trousers that fit. They are being banned because some girls wear them far too short."

Lucy, 14, Yorkshire, England

"I agree. People are wearing their skirts too high. I wear trousers/shorts every day, so I can't really say anything!"

Siobhan, 10, Birmingham, England

"I think they should be banned because they are too short."

Alaina, 11, Birmingham, England

"I think skirts should not be banned from school because I think it gives us a sense of freedom. The teachers have tried to tell us off for skirts that are too short and the school started producing longer skirts, but everyone ended up rolling them up again."

Sarah, 14, Birmingham, England

"I think school skirts should be allowed in school as they don't interfere with your learning."

Beth, 14, Norwich, England

"Mostly everyone in our class thinks that we should not ban them because girls should still have a choice in what they wear."

P5/6, 9-11, Perth, Scotland

"No, because it will be too hot when it gets to summer time."

Sophie, 12, Huddersfield, England

"I think they should ban skirts because girls want the freedom on a hot day. They don't want to be wearing long trousers and parents will be wasting money."

Hassy, 13, London, England

"I think you should wear skirts if you want to because in the summer girls get very hot and trousers get very uncomfortable . I also think there should be a certain length for your skirt."

Ana, 13, Cambridgeshire, England

"I think they should wear skirts if they want to because girls get hot very quickly so if you wear trousers you will get very uncomfortable."

Kayleigh, 13, Cambridgeshire, England

"Banning skirts is the worst thing you could think of. What else will keep us girls cool? It's too hot."

Inda, 12, Wales

"It's so pathetic how they expect us to wear trousers when the weather these days is so hot. When we're older its not like we're going to have such strict rules on uniform. How does the length of your skirt affect your education?"

Yoanaa, 13, London, England

"Yes, because I hate them and skirts are so not for me."

Khloe, 11, Stoke-on-Trent, England

"I think they should be banned as a lot of children in the school I go to lift up everybody else's skirt however if it's a hot day they would sweat in trousers."

Louise, 9, West Midlands, England

"I wear a skirt and it doesn't cause any problems. It's only the girls that wear them short who are the ones that cause problems. I think there should be a certain length for your skirt. At our school we have to wear knee length skirts."

Georgia, 13, Derby, England

"I disagree because they should have the right to choose what they wear!"

Nouha, 10, London, England

"I think that skirts shouldn't be banned. Girls wear skirts because it's too hot."

Cydney, 13, England

"I think school skirts should not be banned at all but there should be strict rules about length."

Emmanuelle, 12, Manchester, England

"I strongly agree that school skirts should stay because girls want the freedom on a hot day. They don't want to be wearing long trousers. Boys can wear shorts and moms will be wasting money on trousers."

Nikita, 10, Birmingham, England

"No, because in summer they will be hot."

Megan, 11, Reading, England

"We think that we should keep skirts! We have prefects to make sure skirts are the right length. It's more choice and they look nice."

Class 7U, 12, Surrey, England

"I don't think they should ban skirts because the girls should have a choice and skirts are useful in the warm seasons. The school should just make longer skirts instead of banning short ones."

Phoebe, 9, Scotland

"I think we shouldn't ban skirts because it's your choice if you want to wear one or not."

Olivia, 10, Nottinghamshire, England

"I don't think they should ban skirts because even if the girls wear them short they're not disgracing the school. All girls wear their skirts short!"

Rachel, 11, Manchester, England
