England team land in South Africa

England World Cup team arrive at their base in South Africa

The England World Cup squad have arrived at their training camp in Rustenburg in South Africa.

Fabio Capello and his 23 men landed in Johannesburg on Thursday morning after an 11-hour flight.

They headed straight to their base, where they were greeted by singing and dancing from South African kids.

Squad numbers have also been revealed, giving us a hint of who'll play the first match. David James, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole are all in the first 11.

England's opening match is against the USA on 12 June.

David James looks like he's Capello's first choice goalkeeper, after getting the number one shirt.

Striker Peter Crouch has got number nine ahead of Emile Heskey.

Wayne Rooney is number 10, and Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard look like they'll be reunited in the centre.


Capello's World Cup team is England's oldest ever, with an average age of 28.7 years.

The team got a boost on Wednesday when Capello agreed with the FA to stay on as England manager until 2012.
