Farmers give sheep medical scans

The sheep getting hospital scans

Farmers are starting to give sheep medical scans to make sure they are fit and healthy.

They're using the CT scan machines, which are normally used for hospital patients, so they can chose the best sheep for breeding.

Farmers in Nottingham have started using the technology to find the fittest, healthiest and strongest sheep from their flocks.

The best ones for breeding have lots of muscle but not much fat.

Farmer use the best sheep for breeding, so that the meat they sell to shops is the best quality.

Although the sight of sheep stuck in hospital scanners looks a bit funny, the animals themselves aren't hurt at all.
