Gordon Brown has said he will quit as the leader of the Labour party.

Meetings about who will run the country are carrying on after the election last week where there was NO overall winner.

The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have been talking about forming a government together since Friday.

Now Gordon Brown - who is still Prime Minister at the moment - has said he will resign to give his party a better chance of being part of the new government.

The election result means there is now something called a 'hung parliament' and two of the parties will have to join forces to make laws.

If two parties manage to agree, they would work together to govern the country.
