Houses of Parliament

After the 2010 election, the UK has ended up with a hung parliament

House of Commons

This means that none of the three big parties have won enough seats to have an overall majority in the House of Commons.

This makes it difficult for any party to make laws, as they haven't got enough MPs to automatically back them up.

Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg

Sometimes parties join up when this happens, to form what's called a 'coalition government'.
