In pics: Potholes used as flower beds

The pothole gardener

Steve Wheen is a very original gardener. Instead of planting flowers in his back garden, he finds potholes and pavement cracks across London to use!

As a cyclist, Steve was getting fed up with the number of potholes which have appeared over the past few months so he thought he'd plant some of the most colourful spring flowers in their place.

Steve is a student at Saint Martins College studying Design Studies...

...and these pics of potholes in London certainly look very arty!

As you can imagine, sometimes his gardening works of art don't last too long, being bang in the middle of the road.

Steve said: "My very first effort only lasted two hours before it was destroyed. They have a very short life."

He said: "But if I can draw a cyclist's attention to a pothole so that they don't hit it, and put a smile on their face then that's enough for me."
