Wembley pitch is dug up again

Wembley stadium

The pitch at Wembley Stadium is being dug up and having its eleventh new turf laid in just three years.

There have been lots of complaints about the pitch since the stadium opened in 2007.

There were problems during the two FA Cup semi-finals earlier this month with a number of players slipping on it.

It costs the Football Association £90,000 to put a new turf down. They're having a big meeting to come up with a long-term answer to the problem.

There are lots of big games coming up at Wembley, including the FA Cup final in May and three Football League play-off finals.

Wembley Stadium cost so much to build that it has to put on other events like rugby matches, American football matches and pop concerts to try to make the money back.

This is one of the reasons why the pitch is often in poor quality.
