It's 40 years since America's third manned mission to the Moon was hit by an explosion two days after take off.

The team almost didn't make it back to earth alive because they were running out of oxygen.

Apollo 13's crew worked with Nasa scientists to find a way to get the craft safely back to Earth.

Millions of people around the world were glued to their TV sets as they watched the drama unfold.
