Swarms of locusts swamp Australia

The locusts

Swarms of locusts have swept through a town in Australia, devastating plants and crops.

Local people said the locusts arrived on a Thursday, and by Sunday, most of their trees were bare.

Thousands of the creatures swept into the outback town of Longreach in Queensland, looking for food.

Mayor John Palmer said the insects had eaten "a fair bit of fodder". It's the worst locust plague to hit the area for 30 years.
