Alice in Wonderland smashes 3D film record

Alice in Wonderland has entered the UK and Ireland box office at number one, with record ticket sales for a 3D film.

The movie took £8.3m in 3D sales over the weekend, compared with Avatar's £6.7m in its first weekend in cinemas.

And in total, Alice in Wonderland took £10.5m, including 2D ticket sales, beating last week's number one, Avatar.

On Tuesday, Alice became the most successful movie ever after taking £76.8m in North America over its opening weekend over there.
