Have you ever been scared by a dog?

Pitbull terrier

There are already rules about keeping some dogs but now the government want to make the law even stricter.

So we want to know if you've ever been scared by a dog?

Unfortunately this topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.

Perhaps you're just really scared of them and you can't explain why?

Your comments

"Once when I was six I was bitten by my Nan's dog. I have a Labrador now and I love it. Even though I was bitten I was never scared by a dog."

Jade, 11, Hampshire, England

"I have never had pets so for me it's natural to be afraid of dogs."

Dolly, 11, Kent, England

"I quite like the quiet ones but when they jump up at you and bark I don't like it very much! I have often seen owners walking their dogs on the streets with no lead."

Hannah, 11, Edinburgh, Scotland

"I love dogs. Not all of them are jumpy and aggressive, most are just friendly. Unless they have been raised that way, they don't tend to attack people, but I think the laws on who should keep dogs should be much more strict."

Heather, 14, Yorkshire, England

"Not really! I own MY OWN puppy and he's my best friend. Some dogs I'm a bit scared of, but I love most!"

Gracie, 8, Hampshire, England

"When I was younger I was really scared of dogs but now I love them. I'll stroke any dog I meet. Now I have got two gentle, pretty-looking dogs that would never bite anyone."

Zehra, 11, Izmir, Turkey

"When I was younger dogs really scared me but I didn't admit it to my friends. I thought it was just a silly thing and I would grow out of it. I never have. Ever since a dog bit me I've always been scared."

Martha, 11, London, England

"I love dogs. I have a Beagle and she is really nice, she never bites. People should make sure that their dogs don't scare other people."

Joshua, 9, Dorchester, England

"I've been bitten by my own dog three times and have stitches all around my mouth. Dogs are still my favourite animal, but I prefer big ones to little ones!"

Lilli, 14, England

"I was scared of a dog that jumped up at me."

Connor, 6, Hampshire. England

"When I was smaller I was petrified! I don't mind my friends' dogs but I don't like the really yappy ones!"

Olivia, 11, Sydney, Australia

"I totally agree with Megan! It's not the fault of the dog if they're aggressive, it's the fault of their owner. Aggressive dogs just need a little bit of help and I think it's totally unfair that dogs get put down when they bite somebody! Owners should get charged or fined instead. If you're nice to a dog and don't scream, they will be nice to you."

Robyn, 10, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

"I have been scared before. This dog had its mouth gripped on my trousers! I think that owners should be more careful with their dogs."

Caitlin, 10, London, England

"I was in the park with my mate when a dog started chasing me. It caught up with me and almost bit me on the leg!"

Christos, 12, London, England

"I'm terrified of dogs! Several of the dogs in my area have tried to attack me, chase me and I've witnessed some dog fighting using mixed Staffordshire and Pit bull breeds. I don't have a problem with dogs themselves, just careless owners who can't do simple things like using a lead or a muzzle if they know their dogs have a tendency to try and bite others."

Sheila, 14, London, England

"I love dogs! Dogs are amazing. I'm never scared by them. When I was small I read up on dog behaviour so I know if a dog is a threat to me by looking at their body language. This gives me so much more courage around dogs as I know how to react to them."

Eileen, 13, Surrey, England

"When I was about nine I sat near a dog and it barked loudly in my face and got angry at me. Since then I have been scared of dogs."

Katy, 13, Burnley, England

"I love dogs. I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I know that sounds really scary, but she would never hurt anyone! In fact, I got bitten by a little Yorkshire Terrier. My dog is lovely. It isn't what kind of dog they are, it's the way they're brought up."

Bethan, 13, Swansea, Wales

"I'm terrified of dogs. In fact, when I was younger I was scared of cats too."

Kalu, 14, Buckinghamshire, England

"When I was seven I was terrified of dogs, but since I have had a dog I'm not scared of them, big or small. Some dogs can be dangerous and those are the ones I am scared of! My friend, who is an absolute dog lover, is not afraid of any types of dogs but she knows it's not always safe."

Emma, 10, Hong Kong, China

"I am sometimes scared of dogs, but only if I am a stranger to them. I have grown up around dogs, many large dogs too. I believe that the laws in place are already strict enough."

Shannon, 14, Norwich, England

"I'm terrified of dogs! I wish they were always on leads!"

Ruadhan, 10, Livingston, Scotland

"In my opinion, the small dogs are a lot more vicious than the big ones!"

Samuel, 13, West Sussex, England

"I've never been scared of a dog."

Gimhani, 11, Colombo, Sri Lanka

"I don't like barking dogs because that tells me that they are mean and loud and they shock me."

Jordan, 12, Normanton, England

"It isn't the dog's fault if it is aggressive, it is the way it has been brought up by its owners. These new laws or rules for dog owners are ridiculous."

Megan, 13, Lincolnshire, England

"I like most dogs but if there's a dog without an owner I get very nervous."

Morgan, 10, Conwy, Wales

"I love big dogs. I have two dogs of my own but they are really gentle and NEVER bite or growl."

Suzanne, 14, Hertfordshire, England

"I'm not exactly scared of dogs but I prefer big ones as they don't usually jump up at you like small ones."

Hannah, 13, Shropshire, England

"I grew up with dogs and they have always been faithful to me. Wherever I go, a dog goes. I love them so much and they always seem to understand how you feel. Dogs rock!"

Hattie, 12, England

"I used to be really scared of dogs but then my friend got one and now I like them."

Isobel, 13, Milton Keynes, England

"We have a dog living next door and it is crazy! I used to love dogs but now I'm not too sure."

Jamie, 10, Bristol, England

"I love dogs. I have three and I am getting a puppy soon! I do understand people who don't like them because when I was little I was very frightened of them."

Hailey, 10, Scotland

"I love dogs because of how gentle they are but I have been scared once before when I met a dog and it started growling at me. It was really scary!"

Natasha, 11, Kilmarnock, Scotland

"When I was five I was really scared when this dog chased me and the owner did nothing to stop it! I think these laws will keep little children safer."

Natasha, 9, London, England

"When I was younger a dog jumped on my back, scratched and bit me, so obviously I am scared of dogs, but now I'm getting used to them and starting to like them! Anyway, my best friend has a dog which I love!"

Lulu, 12, Halifax, England

"My auntie has a German Shepherd. She is lovely, even though she had a bad start in life. She loves people but is very scared of men and other dogs and when she gets walks she is always muzzled around other dogs. Not all dogs are bad, some are just aggressive because they are scared and I think these new laws are over the top and dogs are now getting a bad name as pets."

Sarah, 9, Manchester, England

"I'm not scared of any dog ! There are two Staffies down my street and they are quite friendly. Just because some dogs of that breed are dangerous doesn't mean they ALL are! I think people are just led to believe that!"

Megan, 11, Dundee, Scotland

"I get really nervous around dogs because they always seem to turn and growl at me. I prefer rabbits and hamsters."

Sofia, 12, Essex, England

"I LOVE dogs! I have a Border Terrier and he is my best friend! I am a bit scared of really big dogs because once one chased me and my gran! I think the new laws are OK because it means that people on the streets won't have to always be cautious of dogs around them."

Natalie, 11, Lancashire, England

"Yes, I have been scared of dogs because I feel they might bite or jump up on me, but I'm OK now."

Lauren, 9, Rochester, England

"I think most dogs are safe, although they can be trained to bite or attack. The idea of a new law is somewhat reasonable, but I don't think it should apply to all dogs. Personally, I'm not comfortable around most dogs."

Samantha, 11, London, England

"I'm not scared of dogs but I am not happy because too many people are forcing dogs to fight and it is cruel! Please stop!"

Connor, 11, Clwyd, Wales

"I have only been afraid of a dog once. It was a dog who lived next to my friend and I was afraid because it ran at my friend before and hurt her. Its owner did not care!"

Morgan, 10, Angus, Scotland

"I'm terrified of dogs! I try to dodge them as much as I can! When I was little I was really close to having an accident with a car because I ran on the road to get away from the dog! I wouldn't mind if dogs were on leads, but when they're running around free I'll go anywhere just to get away from them!"

Alisha, 12, London, England

"I'm only really scared of big dogs and bull dogs. I'm not scared of dogs like poodles."

Hamidah, 12, London, England

"I don't like large, loud dogs because they give me a shock."

Shadia, 11, Blackburn, England

"I have been bitten, scratched, jumped on and growled at by a dog. They only do that because they are scared, so leave the dogs alone!"

Cameron, 10, Southampton, England

"I am terrified of them. I once got bitten on the knee and haven't liked them since!"

Emily, 11, Southend, England

"I once got chased by a big dog which made me wary, but I don't mind dogs now unless someone has an uncontrollable dog."

Ellie, 13, Essex, England

"Dogs are awesome! Only really bad people train dogs to kill. I think the chips are a good idea."

"I used to be scared by my nan's dog but I'm not sure if I am now!"

"I don't like dogs. My friend has this little Yorkshire terrier and I am really scared of him. He even pooped on my school skirt and came right up to me and sniffed me. Very disturbing!"

Belle, 14, London, England

"I am terrified of dogs. They are very bouncy and active and can sometimes bite so I would prefer a rabbit instead."

Lauryn, 7, Liverpool, England

Katie, 9, Stockton-on-Tees, England
