Snow blasted with dynamite

They're blasting the snow in the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland to check for avalanches.

The snow has fallen so thickly and so quickly that the rail lines and lifts to the ski slopes are covered over and no one can access them, not even the snow ploughs.

The worry is that a skier going down slopes could set off movement in the snow which could lead to an avalanche.

So for the first time explosives experts are using dynamite to blow the snow up and to put the slopes to the test.
