Chelsea's transfer ban lifted

Stamford Bridge

Good news for Chelsea fans - the club's been told it can buy players again after world football officials cancelled their recent transfer ban.

In September, Fifa banned Chelsea from signing new players, as it was thought they'd broken the rules when they signed Gael Kakuta from Lens in 2007.

The two clubs and Kakuta have now accepted the 18-year-old's contract with the French side wasn't valid.

But Chelsea will still give Lens £113,000 towards their training costs.

Gael Kakuta played for Lens before joining Chelsea in June 2007.

Last year, Fifa said Chelsea persuaded Kakuta to break his contract so he was free to change clubs.

But as the clubs have agreed Kakuta's contract wasn't valid, it means Kakuta couldn't have broken it to join the Blues.
