Liverpool dumped out of FA Cup

Shane Long's extra time goal that clinched the match for Reading

Liverpool have been knocked out of the FA Cup after their replay game against Reading ended 2-1.

Steven Gerard took the Reds into the lead in the first-half, but Reading levelled in second-half injury time.

Shane Long put Reading through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a header in extra time.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez said: "Everyone is very disappointed, it was a massive competition that we wanted to do well in."

To make matters worse for the Reds, both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres had to come off the pitch due to injury.

The result puts even more pressure on Rafael Benitez's position as manager of the club.

This was Reading's first victory at Anfield. They will now play their fourth-round tie against Burnley.

In other FA Cup news, Newcastle are through to the fourth round.

Peter Lovenkrands scored a hat trick of goals to beat Plymouth 3-0.

The Magpies face West Bromwich in the next round.
