Warnings over UK Christmas freeze

Anyone hoping to get away for Christmas or to do some last minute shopping is facing huge disruption again as the icy conditions continue to cause problems.

Fresh snow and freezing temperatures have created delays across the UK, and cancellations at most major airports.

On the roads, weather warnings are also in place for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland after rain fell on already icy surfaces.

In parts of Scotland, temperatures overnight plunged as low as -16C.

Wintry weather may be great for making snowmen or having snowball fights, but it's making travelling pretty tricky.

The icy conditions have led to an increase in the number of road accidents and motorists in particular are being asked not to travel unless they really need to.

But despite snow covering more of the UK at the moment, only the north-east of Scotland is expected to have fresh snowfall on Christmas Day to make it a truly white Christmas.
