Newsround's Leah

The University of Manchester is doing some research into clouds are made. Leah took a closer look to see exactly how the experiment works.

Temperature indicator

For the conditions to be right to make clouds the scientists have to the lower the temperature to about minus 20 degrees inside the chamber.

Cloud chamber

The scientists make the clouds by using putting steam inside the chamber - a bit like a giant kettle.

Cloud particle imager

Inside the chamber, which is taller than a normal house, are lots of cameras. So the scientists can use a computer to see if the experiment is working.

This time the experiment has made tiny ice particles so it looks like it's snowing.
