Row over 'ginger' Christmas card

Anger over ginger Christmas card

The supermarket Tesco has apologised for selling a Christmas card that makes fun of people with ginger hair.

A mum saw the card at a store in York and complained because she said it was offensive to her and her daughters, who all have red hair.

The card shows a child with ginger hair sitting on Santa's lap and the words 'Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones' are written above the photo.

Tesco said it was sorry if the card had "caused any upset".

Davinia Phillips said she was shocked when she saw the card: "I picked it up and I couldn't believe it.

"I just thought 'What is so funny about that?' I didn't really get the joke."

Tesco say it's now removed the card from all stores around the UK.

It said: "We sell a large range of Christmas cards, including some which are intended to be humorous. It is never our intention to offend any customer."
