Does the colour pink stink?

Pink wellies

What do you think of the colour pink?

Some people are angry with toy shops who make LOADS of girls clothes and toys pink - they reckon that it will make all children will grow up thinking pink is a colour only for girls!

And their 'Pink Stinks' campaign is being backed by an MP.

What do you think? Is pink for everyone? Or is it just for girls?

Are boys' toys are more interesting than girls' anyway?

Do you reckon shops make too many toys pink - or do you think it doesn't make a difference?

Unfortunately this topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.

Your Comments

"I hate the colour pink. I think there should be more colours to choose from like boys have a choice. It's just not fair!"

Georgia, 10, Cornwall, England

"I think that it is unfair that shops generally sell blue items for boys and pink for girls. Most girls like blue, and I would like to know why pink is girly. There should be more of a selection for both genders."

Lauren, 10, Buckinghamshire, England

"I'm a boy and I love the colour pink. But I do think girls should have a variety of colours."

Jake, 14, Oxford, England

"I like pink, but when you just want something in a different colour, all the choice for girls is pink! So I sometimes even end up getting the boy's ones, because I would rather have blue than pink!"

Ella, 11, Surrey, England

"I think that pink is not just for girls, but for everyone. In toy shops I think they make too much pink for girls. It's better to make different coloured toys for everyone."

Jemimah, 6, London, England

"I don't really like pink but some girls do and if they like it then no one can stop them from liking the colour pink."

Lauren, 11, Scotland

"Girls do not have to be associated with the colour pink, take me for example, my favourite colours are blue, gold and red. I don't think they are girly colours."

Sarah, 13, Sheffield, England

"I like the colour pink, but I would like to see some more red and blues for us girls, because pink is not my favourite colour, red and blue are."

Charlotte, 11, Yorkshire, England

"I think there should be a choice. It is very annoying that everything for children only comes in two colours in general, pink and blue. I like blue better!"

Megan, 10, Dundee, Scotland

"All of the boys wear pink gloves for school and they are cool. I am a boy and I like pink gloves."

James, 12, County Durham, England

"I am a girl, but I think there should be more boy colours in shops. I like boy colours."

Daisy, 7, Dover, England

"I think that pink is quite girly and many shops do mainly make pink toys for girls and never for boys. I think that pink is a really nice colour. It's amazing!"

Zoe, 13, Nottingham, England

"I think pink stinks. I wanted some trainers that weren't pink and my mum and I had real trouble finding any because my feet are only a 12 and a half. I wish girls things were not always so pink."

Helen, 7, Basingstoke, England

"We think that pink is a nice colour but they make it so girly, we stop liking it. We like the girl toys but they are pink. Boys toys are the best!"

Luisa and Raphael, 10 and 7, London, England

"It is so annoying, pink stinks! I think that girls toys should not just be made in pink and purple."

Ali, 10, Cork, Ireland

"I think pink is OK if it is a little bit, but I hate too much of it and I think girls should have a break from pink. Pink stinks!"

Catherine, 7, London, England

"I don't like pink at all!! It is very pretty but not nice. I find it really annoying when I go to buy something in the shop and everything for girls is pink! I like greens and blues and reds but they are all boys colours! Pink stinks!!"

Aisling, 12, Galway, Ireland

"No way, I think that the colour pink is representing a feeling, people in my class also think that. Girls and boys can like the colour pink. PINK DOES NOT STINK!!"

Zoe, 11, Yorkshire, England

"I think girls toys shouldn't be pink all the time because people will just not be interested in them! We need lots of different colours!"

Ursula, 12, New Zealand

"I love pink! If you don't like it then don't judge other people. If you like blue maybe some other people hate it, but do they judge you? No. So leave people alone who like pink. It is not nice - well that's what I think anyway, so pink does not stink!"

Alicia, 9, Gloucestershire, England

"I think that pink stinks because young children must not grow up thinking pink is a girly colour and boys must not like it. Girls and boys should be able to enjoy all colours. I think boys have more choice of toys than girls in the shops, it is not fair!"

Maeve, 8, Berkshire, England

"I HATE PINK! It is the worst colour EVER! I've always been a tomboy and it is way more fun than fussing over your make up! I love football and the boys I play with are really cool. Pink is too girly! I like blue, green and purple."

Francesca, 12, London, England

"This is really stupid! It is a waste of time and money! The shops are not forcing you to buy any of the pink toys, so just leave them and go and get something you do like and stop moaning! Everyone is allowed to like or not like pink, it is just a colour, so get over yourselves and think about more important things like how we are going to solve global warming - instead of thinking about stuff that people really don't care about!"

Emily, 13, Lancs, England

"Yes, I do think pink stinks because although I like pink I don't think girls should have to put up with a colour they do not like."

Anna, 9, Norfolk, England

"I hate pink, I think it's girlish. But I do think children have the right to choose their favourite colour. I don't think shops should stop selling pink. They should just sell less pink."

Anna, 9, London, England

"Pink is a good colour, but not just for girls. At my school, over half the boys wear pink hats and gloves."

Abigayle, 11, Cumbria, England

"Everybody says pink is for girls and blue for boys. I adore orange and can never find anything in that colour like it or not. If boys get a range of colours why can't girls?"

Maisie, 8, West Sussex, England

"I think that girls should be getting other colours than pink, because it would get boring just having one colour."

Hannah, 10, Berkshire, England

"I have nothing against pink, I do not really like the colour, but I do hate it when in shops all the girl things are pink and all the boys stuff is blue! Blue is my favourite colour and I don't know how people think pink is the colour for girls!"

Meg, 9, Paisley, Scotland

"I have never been into the colour pink and I still hate it. I love darker colours. I'm not saying girls should like darker colours if they don't want to, but at least not always pink. The boys get green, blue and other cool colours. I say pink stinks!"

Nicola, 13, England

"Pink is for everyone! It's about equality and I have several friends that are boys that wear pink. There is nothing wrong with it at all and I would back this campaign all the way."

Natasha, 13 Bristol, England

"I think all girls don't like pink - I myself dislike pink. My favourite colour is purple, boys have many choices of toy colours, as blue, green, red and many more, but girls only have pink. Someone should change that and girls should have more choice on what colours they like."

Bethan, 12, Norton, England

"I think we should have much more things like boys and shouldn't have pink, pink, pink all the time. They shouldn't only sell things like princess things for girls. Girls like more things, like sports, but they always have pink all the time . Girls clothes are often pink and we want more colours."

Ishbel, 8, Epsom, England

"I think pink is a great colour, but some girls don't like pink or wouldn't usually choose pink, so things should definitely be changed."

Abbie, 12, Hampshire, England

"Some girls and boys like pink. But some boys and girls prefer other colours. But does it matter? I think there should be as many toys that are black and brown and other colours as well as pink. So when you see a pink toy ignore the colour and paint it another."

Maryam, 8, Saudi Arabia

"Anyone can like pink. Girls and boys like pink. Shops are stupid to think that only girls like pink. You don't have to wear pink. My friends and me all prefer blue but that's just our opinion."

Amy, 9, Buckinghamshire, England

"I don't think pink stinks, I think it's a nice colour for both girls and boys. I do have lots of pink clothes, more than my brothers, but when I was in junior school we had a pink day and plenty of boys were wearing pink!"

Kate, 12, Scarborough, England

"I agree completely! I grew up loving the colour pink with lots of choice, but now that I am older I love the colour purple. Also, I think that shops are only making lots of pink products because that is the colour we are buying!"

Tania, 10, London, England

"I like pink, but I think that some shops sell most of it because they know that most girls like pink and then they will make more money out of that colour."

Leah, 11, England

"I don't think pink stinks, but there should be more range in colour, anyone can wear pink it's their choice."

Ellena, 11, Surrey, England

"I am a tom-boy, and I used to adore the colour pink, but then I moved off it and went on to other colours like yellow and green. I got fed up all the time of people saying that blue was for boys and pink was for girls."

Georgia, 12, Sheffield, England

"Yes it does! I'm so pleased that people are finally tired of the colour pink. If you look in my wardrobe, you'll see greys, blacks and whites instead of pink and purple. I'm more of a tomboy than a girl so I have been known to buy boys' toys."

Lucy, 12, Wigan, England

"My favourite colour is pink, but sometimes it can go too far. I wish that kids can have a variety of colours, just like boys."

Rachael, 10, Crewe, England

"I like a variety of colours including pink. People should have free will over the colour they choose for things. The pink stinks campaign is not giving people that free will. The logic of pink for girls is it is a bright colour and some girls like bright colours. Some boys also like bright colours but not as much as dark colours."

Emma, 9, Scotland

"Pink isn't just for girls it's for everyone and girls like different colours too."

Saheyba, 10, Birmingham, England

"When I was younger all the girls I knew liked pink and that's because most things for girls are pink. So yes I think they have too much pink things for girls, but when you're older you might still like it or you might not."

Angele, 10, London, England

"In my family I am possibly the hardest one to buy presents for, because I hate pink. I like the colours black and red, not silly pink. Pink might be a colour to buy a baby because they can't tell the difference, but as you get older you grow out of it."

Dana, 10, Portsmouth, England

"I like pink, but I do like other colours as well, like blue, so I hate it when boys say, blue is a boy's colour!"

Ameena, 12, Swindon, England

"I love the colour pink and pink dos not stink. Pink is made for boys and girls and why would anyone go against pink? I mean it's just a colour! Next people maybe go against blue!"

Sabeen, 10, Oxford, England

"I think pink is a nice colour but I'm just getting sick of it there should be a a different variety of colours for girls and boys."

Imogen, 9, Poole, England

"Pink isn't the only colour for girls. Just because toys are in the boys toys section of the toy shop doesn't mean girls can't have them. Girls have just as much choice as boys!"

Gaby, 10, Cardiff, Wales

"I love pink, but I also think that girls toys shouldn't always be pink. However, my sister and I have lots of toys that aren't pink, and they are suitable for girls. We love playing with them!"

Rebekah, 11, Bradford, England

"I hate the colour pink! I really despise it and I dislike the way it is pushed at girls to buy it. It is incredibly mean for shops to let boys have a wide variety of colours and only let girls have pink!"

Ellie, 11, Essex, England

"I don't think pink should be used as much in shops because some girls like other colours like blue or red and some like black. Also when boys go into shops they won't want to see everything pink and really girly."

Fred, 11, Kent, England

"I like hot pink sometimes, but not baby pink! I also think that girls should have more range in coloured toys. Sometimes I can't buy stuff I want because they just come in pink."

Ellie, 13 Surrey, England

"I think girls should have the choice of different coloured toys because companies are assuming that there is only one type of girl when really everyone is an individual."

Flo, 11, Greenwich, England

"Yes there should be more of a variety of colours for girls, but also most girls love to dress up in pink when they are young, because that's what girls love to do!"

Molly, 12, Ipswich, England

"I don't think girls things have enough variety at all. First of all not all girls like pink and not all girls like princesses and dolls. I also think girls shoes shouldn't have loads of hearts and flowers on them. Not all girls like those things and it's really unfair when boys have all these adventurous things and a variety when we only have the choice of wearing pink or getting a silly old doll. I personally enjoy football and tree climbing and the stuff shops produce doesn't encourage girls to be active and adventurous. When I go to the shops I always have to go to the boy section to get something decent."

Anna, 10, Surrey, England

"If girls are that bothered about the colour and the range of stuff, why don't they go to the boys section of a shop there's all the colour and range you want, it's not against the law to get boys stuff."

Robert, 12, Yorkshire, England

"Pink rocks it's the best thing since sliced bread!"

Francesca, 12, Yorkshire, England

"I think that pink is fine if girls like it, but they should still have more colours like blue or green."

Lucinda, 11, York, England

"I think shops sell way too much pink things, whenever I need new clothes there is hardly anything that isn't pink I'd like purple, blue and red not pink. I am certainly more interested in boys toys, they get to build stuff and we just get silly dolls which are dressed in pink how unfair is that!"

Rosie, 13, Bainbridge, England

"I think pink is OK, but now most girl toys are only pink! I mean come on! I like all the boy colours much better."

Roisin, 10, Aberdeen, Scotland

"I'm a girl and I don't even like pink and I have to get pink all the time because people think I like it."

Mia, 8, Berkshire, England

"I think that they should have a larger variety of girls toys. Not just pink princess dresses and fluffy fairy wands! Some girls, like myself would like some spy things, less girly things."

Ciara, 10, Cheshire, England

"I think pink is one of the worst colours and shops are trying to force too much of the colour on girls and they need more colours."

Holly, 9, Suffolk, England

"I only like hot pink the other pinks are OK but they are not my cup of tea. I think pink should be a colour for any gender, if girls are allowed to like blue why wouldn't boys be allowed to like pink?"

Magdalnea, 12, Holland

"I think it's unfair that the toy and clothes producers generally make girls things pink. Personally, I think girls should get some choice in colours, not just pink."

Ruby, 11, London, England

"In my opinion boys look perfectly fine in pink as do girls in blue. I also think it is very unfair that pink is judged as a girls colour and it is only judged as this because shops have enforced the colour on girl customers."

Catherine, 12, Nottingham, England

"I don't buy as many toys as I used to because most toys are pink. I'm not saying it's a disgusting colour but now pink annoys me a lot because it is everywhere. But the thing that really annoys me is that colours of toys for boys are varied unlike girls where the colour is always pink!"

Judy, 11, Doncaster, England

"I think girls and boys should have lots of different colours for all their toys and games. I think it's horrible to tease people about what colour they have. The colour pink is OK, but most girls these days like different colours more. Boys shouldn't get teased for having pink things as well."

Maisie, 9, Cambridgeshire, England

"I think that this is absolutely ridiculous, pink is my favourite colour. There are many other coloured products already also available in the shops. I know many people that feel the same. If you don't like the lovely colour pink then it's simple - just don't buy it!"

Liberty, 11, Oxfordshire, England

"I don't like the colour pink and there are way too many pink toys and clothes in shops! My favourite colour is blue."

Sidra, 13, Manchester, England

"No way, I'm a girl and I think pink is awesome, I don't know why people should have a thing against it. But people who get tired of the colour pink should have more colour choice."

Katie, 13, Newport, Wales

"I think that pink is a great colour but they always force it on little girls so all they think about is pink toys. There are other colours!"

Kala, 13, Hertfordshire, England

"I think there is too much pink for girls. I go to shops and I love the girl designs on some products but I have to get the boy designs as there's only the colour pink for girls while the boys get loads of different colours to choose from. It's not fair. I like pink but it gets annoying when it is said as the girl colour."

Sophie, 14, Barnsley, England

"I think that pink is a good colour, but it shouldn't always be associated with girls. Anyone should be able to choose which colours they like, and pink shouldn't be a stereotype of girls!"

Amy, 12, Manchester, England

"I think that although there may be a bit too much pink at sometimes, the colour is a great colour, and is very important. I don't think pink is just for girls, however, there should be more varieties of colours in toy shops."

Eakish, 12, London, England

"I agree with this topic, pink does stink! My favourite colour is orange. I hate pink because when I was growing up, there was too much pink around me, that I ended up hating it!"

Shannon, 14, Surrey, England

"I don't think pink stinks. Some people like pink and some people don't. I like the colour pink but not everything I have is pink. We're all different and that's the way we are."

Leah, 11, Liverpool, England

"Pink is so not for only girls. I know lots of boys who like pink!"

Tomi, 10, Doncaster, England

"I'm a tomboy and I don't really like pink. I have a couple of pink things but girls should have more variety of colours because not all girls like pink."

Lauren, 10, Maidenhead, England

"I like the colour pink, but too much of it can get a bit boring. I prefer colours like purple and blue and so do my friends. I think they should make more clothes and toys in these colours for girls instead."

Julia, 12, Surrey, England

"I think this is really sexist, if girls don't like pink they can buy something else but the reason that there are so many pink products for girls is because they actually like the colour."

Jo, 12, England

"Naturally most girls like pink. I think it's stereotyping though. I have a sister who is a tomboy, she finds it hard to find clothes because they're all pink. I also think that it's a shame that boys can't admit they like pink as they might get beaten up."

Kirsty, 12, Surrey, England

"I am a big fan of pink, but I find that most pink toys are babyish and don't suit anyone above the age of 9. This is because the toys are mostly baby dolls and Barbie dolls. I think that companies think that if a girl is 11 and they like pink, then they like baby toys. I don't think that pink should be banned, I just think there should be more variety, for us girls to choose from."

Chante, 11, London, England

"I'm nearly 9 and my favourite colour is pink, but I hate Princesses and fairies I think there should be a different colours and different toys available."

Bethany, 8, Reading, England

"I think that the colour pink is OK but some times I get bored of it because the colour of my bed room walls are pink."

Daisy, 9, Hampshire, England

"There is way too much pink!!!"

Ben, 11, Surrey, England

"I LOVE PINK!! My whole room is pink the walls, the bed, my mirror, my TV everything. If a girl doesn't like the colour she doesn't have to buy pink things. There are lots of colours to buy things in! Also pink is not just for girls, boys can like it too."

Tia, 13, Somerset, England

"I think a lot of the pink toys and clothes should stay in the shops. I think there should be a little bit of pink and a little bit of the other colours too."

Carol, 11, Hertfordshire, England

"It doesn't matter what colour people want to wear it's up to them. Some people are obsessed with pink and others hate it with passion. Either way, there is no right or wrong and people are entitled to their opinions!"

Hanna, 12, St. Albans, England

"I think pink rules, why should anyone have anything against pink?"

Jessica, 12, Bristol, England

"No I don't think pink stinks. But I do think that girls are made to like pink and are not allowed to like different colours. And also it isn't just girls that like pink, boys do too!"

Sophie, 11, Norwich, England

"I think pink is great and it's for boys and girls. Pink goes well on guys' clothes too as well as girls, so pink definitely doesn't stink according to me!"

Hannah, 11, Birmingham, England

"Personally I hate the colour pink and adore the colour turquoise. Loads of people think that blue is for boys and pink for girls, but barely any girls my age like pink."

Lizzie, 10, Northampton, England

"I disagree completely! I grew up loving the colour yellow with lots of choice, but now that I am older I love the colour pink. Also, I think that shops are only making lots of pink products because that is the colour we are buying!"

Anabelle, 12, Swindon, England

"I think that pink is a really nice and bright colour but when it comes to clothes there is too much pink."

"Yes! Pink does stink because I don't think it's fair when most girls toys are pink and some girls don't like pink like me!"

Kirsty, 10, Glasgow, Scotland

Jessica, 8, Lincoln, England

"I think that pink is OK for boys as well as girls. Most girls prefer blue than pink."

Katie, 10, West Sussex, England

"I don't think that girls stuff should always be pink, they should have a choice."

Harriet, 8, Reading, England

"I've always hated pink, even when I was little. You do not know how hard it was for me to find clothes, toys and other products that I liked and that were not pink. It's still difficult now, and I have a wider range of places to go!"

Francesca, 13, Dudley, England

"I think shops should have a better variety of colours because I don't wear pink. I like purple and sky blue. In the shops many boys toys are pink, red, green all the colours I like, but the girls just mainly have pink toys and clothes."

Tanya, 12, Surrey, England

"Just because there are pink toys doesn't mean you have to buy them. I'm a girl and I don't like the colour pink, so I don't get them. The reason why people usually think of girls when the word pink comes up is because most girls do like pink."

Hollie, 14, Surrey, England

"I think pink is a great colour but not everyone likes the colour pink. I think there needs to be varieties to suit peoples tastes - just because we are girls doesn't mean we love pink!"

Lucy, 10, Manchester, England

"It's really annoying how shops always think that girls like pink. You can hardly ever find clothes that don't have any pink on them. Pink Stinks!"

Evelyn, 10, Durham, England

"I like the colour pink but I don't find it fair that pink is thought of as the only colour for girls."

Gemma, 11, Nottingham, England

"Anyone can like pink or wear pink clothes, whether you're a boy or a girl!"

Hannah, 11, Shropshire, England

"I hate the colour pink I think all girls should be able to choose their own colour."

Katie, 10, Cambridgeshire, England

Bronwyn, 13, Wakefield, England

"I am 11 years old and my favourite colour is blue and red. Also, I'm not interested in the girl's toys because they are pink."

Felicia, 11, Warwickshire, England

"Pink is the best colour ever. I don't know why every girl doesn't love it. Nearly everything I have is pink."

Isobelle, 10, Staffordshire, England

"The colour pink is great!! I am a girl but they should do various colours like purple or green!"

Amreen, 12, Kent, England

"I myself like the colour pink, so no, it doesn't stink at all. I don't think shops make too many products pink. There's a reasonable amount and I think the amount of colours they use are fair!"

Jessica, 10, London, England

"I personally HATE pink but I do think it gets passed on as a girls colour. If you give a baby boy pink he'll start liking that colour."

Gemma, 10, London, England

"I think there is way too much pink and tomboys like me don't like it."

Gwennan, 8, Gloucestershire, England

"I think that girls should still have pink toys but companies should bring out toys and packing that are different colours, like purple and yellow."

Robbie, 13, Edinburgh, Scotland

"When you go to the supermarket you look around and the shop is nearly all multicoloured, but when you get to the children's section you find that one side is pink and the other multicoloured. I wish that the girls section would turn multicoloured again."

Karina, 9, Bolton, England

"I am a girl and I absolutely hate pink so every time I go shopping I have to look around for about half an hour just to find something that isn't pink. If I find something that I like, it's usually pink, so I have to ask a shop assistant if they have it in a different colour."

Christie, 10, Surrey, England

"NO. I may be a boy but I think that it isn't fair that girls only have pink."

Jack, 7, Fife, Scotland

"I love the colour pink and I always have. Sometimes there is a bit too much pink, but that is what little girls love!"

Hannah, 13, Dundee, Scotland

"I think that pink is OK but it's not my kind of style. People think that pink is for girls and blue is for boys but I think everyone should like any colour. My favourite colour is violet and I'm a girl, though most girls like the colour blue. It's fine that people like different colours."

Fatima, 10, Hull, England

"I think girls don't get much choice, it's pink and girly or nothing! Even the HM Forces Figures range has been aimed at boys. There are girls in the British military, but they don't even get a doll! Not all girls want to be princesses - some of us have greater and more realistic ambitions. We want to be soldiers, police, firemen or even MI5 agents! Why settle for pink when there is a whole rainbow out there!"

"I don't like pink that much anyway and all the toys in the shop are pink! I don't think girls have a fair choice."

"Well I love the colour pink and I'm a boy but I wouldn't buy pink toys. So if girls don't want to they should be able to choose."

Adam, 11, Basel, Switzerland

"I think there can't be too much pink ever. Although lots of girls don't like pink I'm one of those who love the colour! All my friends also like the colour pink so there can never be too much of the colour pink!"

Emily, 11, Derby, England

"I think pink stinks, most girls like blue or any other colours. Most of the girls I know hate the colour pink, and so do I."

Paige, 10, Wales

"Even though I am a girl, I hate the colour pink! I think that girls should have more choice and just because we're girls it doesn't mean we can't have boy's colours as well."

Rowan, 12, Essex, England

"I love the colour pink but I suppose there should be other colours available in the shops. Even though pink looks good with everything!"

Pippa, 14, London, England

"Pink stinks, but I love the singer Pink! She rules! I hate it how people can be so sexist by saying pink is a girl's colour only and blue is for boys!"

Alice, 12, Northampton, England

"I don't think pink stinks. It's a free world and everyone has a different taste!!"

Megan, 10, Hull, England

Louise, 11, Hertfordshire, England

"I love the colour pink, pink is the latest fashion and everyone is wearing it including boys. But I do agree that there are a lot of products that are pink and are mostly targeted at girls."

Iman, 12, London, England

"I LOVE pink, but then I'm a girly-girl. I think that pink toys and clothes can still be produced, but have an additional colour such as yellow or blue. Pink is also for boys!"

Anna, 10, England

"I used to like pink but now I hate it! I like blue best which is supposed to be a 'boys colour'"

Jasmine, 13, UK

"I think there are too many pink toys for girls, it isn't just a girls colour, I hate the colour and all these toys and clothes in the colour are part of the reason why!"

Elizabeth, 14, Cardiff, Wales

"No, I think all bright colours are fun."

Laura, 12, Berkshire, England

"Well pink doesn't really look good on me as clothes but I like it in bags and other accessories. My fave colours are black and hot pink."

Lisa, 12, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

"I love pink but only bubblegum pink. Pink is only made known as a girls' colour by the influence of the media - and of course Barbie! If boys want to wear pink that's fine. But be prepared for LOADS of teasing at school!"

Suzanne, 14, Hertfordshire, England

"I hate pink and I'm a girl. I prefer green or purple but that is just me. Anybody can like any colour they want!"

Katie, 11, West Yorkshire, England
