Danyl Johnson has been voted off the X Factor, which means he will miss out on a place in the show's final.
As the result was announced, the 27-year-old schoolteacher hugged fellow contestant Stacey Solomon who beat him to secure a spot in Saturday's decider.
Danyl said: "I might have gone out in the semi-final but I've gone out to some of the best people I've ever met."
Stacey will join Olly Murs and Joe McElderry in Saturday's final to battle it out for the 2009 title.
On Sunday's show, Olly burst into tears when he found out he was through, while Stacey just looked shocked when she found out she was safe.
Danyl's mentor Simon Cowell was upset with the result, but said there was "nothing more" he could have done.
Kent schoolteacher Danyl didn't say whether he would be going back to his old job.
He said: "I'm just going to see what happens. I'm looking forward to seeing my family and friends and maybe play a couple of gigs."
Sunday's show also featured performances from Lady GaGa and Janet Jackson.
Joe McElderry is the favourite to win the competition, which comes to an end on Saturday.
