Manchester United are in the Carling Cup semi-finals after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Darron Gibson scored both goals for United to send the holders to within two wins of keeping the trophy.

Aston Villa have also made it through to the last four after they beat Portsmouth 4-2 at Fratton Park.

It's been a bad week for Portsmouth's new manager Avram Grant who's seen the team let in eight goals in their last two games.

Sir Alex Ferguson selected team packed with younger players against Spurs, in a repeat of last season's Wembley final.

Sir Alex has been criticised in the past for not playing his regular first team, but the result showed his developing players can compete with the big teams.
