Book review: Crocodile Tears - Anthony Horowitz

Crocdile Tears
Author

Anthony Horowitz

Publication date

The story

Alex Rider is back in this amazing new adventure. The story's action packed, with nasty twists and wicked villains.

The story starts as all other Alex Rider books do, with a grisly death that leads on to the main story, but I think this one is particularly gruesome as you are expecting it to happen but there is a shocking twist to it.

Alex is celebrating New Year's Eve at the castle of ex boxer, now a major charity leader, Desmond McCain.

As the evening goes on Alex finds himself against the charity leader in a game of poker, and then from then on it's action all the way.

Alex finds himself in a car at the bottom of a lake, in a battle in a graveyard and much more.

The characters

Boy turned spy, 14-year-old Alex Rider (of course) is the main hero. Desmond McCain the villain, an orphan named after the packaging he was found wrapped in! And Sabina Alex's girlfriend, her family and lots more well designed characters.

Highlights

Alex Rider's clever ways of dodging disaster is one of the main highlights. There is a very tense page-turning part when he's trapped in a car under a frozen lake.

Anthony Horowitz goes into a lot of depth describing what is happening and gives you little hints to the main story to try to let you guess what's going to happen.

Any weak bits?

This is one of the best Alex Rider books so there are definitely no weak bits.

You don't have to read the other seven books before this, but we'd recommend it because they are all a good read and will help you understand this book a lot better.

If you're an Alex Rider fan then this ranks with Scorpia and Skeleton Key.

Unputdownable?

The WHOLE book is amazing.

"Move over Scorpia, CROCODILE TEARS is here. I'm a HUGE Alex Rider fan and Crocodile Tears just reminded me how much I love the books. Crocodile Tears is not only the best Alex Rider book so far, it introduces some problems in Alex's life that might seem quite ordinary, but could put Alex in a whole load of danger. With no-one to turn to for help, Alex is facing some of the hardest times of his life."

Annie, 14, Birmingham, England
