Press Packer Jessica
Press Packer Jessica modelled a costume made of poppies at her school fashion show.
She tells why poppies are so important for remembering those who gave up their lives in war.
"My friend Kara from Year 10 asked me to wear a dress she had designed for the school's fashion show. Her theme was Remembrance and I was to be dressed as a soldier's daughter whose father had died in World War 1.
She had spent weeks sewing and making the costumes we would both wear. All the effort she put into her dresses was amazing and when I saw the outfits, they looked magnificent.
Important
Kara told me she chose to use poppies in her designs because it is important that people who fought in wars are remembered as good and honourable people.

She decided to spray my dress white to remember the families of the soldiers who died in World War 1, as they had to live the rest of their lives without their husband or father.
On the day of the show I woke up very, very excited, dreaming about my costume made entirely from poppies. It was going to be incredibly eye-catching.
I had to be extremely careful walking along. I was nervous but thrilled when we walked along the catwalk in front of hundreds of parents.
I saw my mum and dad who were very proud of me. There was an excited gasp from the audience when they saw our costumes.
Peace
Red poppies represent all the people who have died in wars. They help us remember everyone who have given up their lives for their country so we can have peace and happiness.
We learn about wars in history but it is still difficult to appreciate and realise why we go to war and why so many people get killed.
Poppy Day helps us to consider all the soldiers and people who died fighting so we can have the peace and happiness today."
