The MTV Europe Awards 2009 made a big noise in Berlin, Germany. Irish rockers U2 played a special concert in the city to mark the 20th year since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Katy Perry was the host of the awards. She also performed, mashing together the five tunes in the running for best song. And played on a swing.
But it was Beyonce who was the big winner on the night. She took home three awards - best song, best video and best female artist.
Her husband Jay-Z was also in Germany for the awards. He grabbed the award for best urban and then made the venue shake with his latest tune Empire State of Mind.
And then the venue heated up (see what we did there?) when German group Tokio Hotel took to the stage. They won best group and performed, and yes, their piano is on fire.
Best rock winners Green Day made sure all that fire wasn't wasted with their performance too. They played a mix of new hit Know Your Enemy and old fave Minority.
Host Katy Perry switched outfits a lot during the ceremony. She also got some help from a few guest presenters, like Foo Fighters main man Dave Grohl.
Shakira tried to make sure Beyonce didn't have it all her own way with a performance of her current single Did It Again.
And while it may seem American stars had invaded the EMAs, Britain was represented by Leona Lewis. She was Happy to sing her new single.
Even U2 decided they needed help for a show this big. They called on pal Jay-Z to stir things up, and got together to sing Bob Marley's Get Up Stand Up and Sunday Bloody Sunday.
