Donington won't host British GP

The British Grand Prix may struggle to get started in 2010 because the circuit that was supposed to host it now won't.

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone had agreed that the British Grand Prix would be held at a track called Donington for the next 17 years.

But as part of that deal the track bosses had to agree to spend millions of pounds upgrading the circuit.

They couldn't raise enough money to make those improvements, so now won't be hosting the British Grand Prix.

That means that at the moment there is no circuit in Britain with a deal in place to host a race in 2010.

The British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone in 2009, but Ecclestone decided he wanted to let Donington take over the race in future.

British GP in 2010?

Now the people in charge of Silverstone are talking to Ecclestone to try to win back the rights to the race.

They'll have to come up with a lot of money to pay for the right to host it, but a lot of Formula One drivers and teams have already said they want a British Grand Prix to take place in 2010.
