Arsenal knock out Liverpool

Fran Merida celebrates

Arsenal have knocked Liverpool out of the Carling Cup, beating them 2-1.

There were two amazing goals in the first half. Fran Merida blasted the Gunners ahead after 19 minutes, but Emiliano Insua equalised soon after.

Nicklas Bendtner got the winner for Arsenal just after half-time, but Liverpool were unlucky not to get a penalty later in the match.

In the other Carling Cup games, Chelsea beat Bolton 4-0 and Manchester City got a 5-1 win against Scunthorpe.

The winning teams go through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
