Film review: Michael Jackson's This Is It

Michael Jackon's new film This Is It

Release date: 27 October

You may not have noticed (as if!), but a new film starring Michael Jackson has just come out. It's called This Is It and was created from rehearsal footage for a huge tour the singer was planning.

Newsround sent MJ fans Ore and Sonali to check it out. Over to Sonali...

"What a night! And I've got Ore to thank for it.

Ore went to a 12-minute preview screening of the new movie a couple of weeks ago, and afterwards called me and said it was just too big for him to go alone and he was going to try to get me a ticket.

And he did! Now that's what I call a BFF - love ya Ore!

We turned up to London's Leicester Square very excited because we're both big fans. After doing a bit of filming and meeting some of the kids in the crowd, the celebs started arriving. And they were all really keen to talk to Newsround. We even got some of them to sing and dance for you!

JLS talks to Newsround

JLS perform a quick Michael Jackson cover version for Ore

Just after midnight we settled into our seats with a bag of popcorn, an ice-cream and a bottle of water each. It was weird because the audience was a mix of ordinary people and celebrities.

I mean, imagine being in the same cinema as JLS and Westlife!

There was lots of screaming when famous faces made their way to their seats but when the show started at 1am, no-one cared who was sitting near them. All eyes were glued to the big screen. Everyone clapped.

This Was It.

So what did we think of This Is It?

Ore and Sonali review This Is It

Ore and I thought the film was brilliant. But it's not really a movie - it's a documentary.

The film makers have stitched lots of rehearsal clips together and the result makes you feel like you were backstage during preparations for the big comeback tour.

You see that despite all the problems with his health, MJ was still one of the greatest performers on the planet.

It also reveals that he wanted everything absolutely perfect and wasn't shy about telling people off if they weren't doing things his way. But underneath all that talent, you realise he was a just a big kid that wanted to sing and dance.

I got to see the King of Pop live in London when I was 16 during his HIStory world tour. While This Is It isn't a substitute for seeing him in concert, it's the nearest any of us are now going to get to seeing the magic that was Michael Jackson.

"I like the new film, it shows you what it was like for Michael, and how much pressure he was under because of all the concert dates. I really felt sorry for him during the film, and I actually cried when I came out of the cinema. Very sad."
