Cheryl Cole storms to number one

Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Cole has stormed straight to the top of the singles chart with her debut solo single, Fight For This Love.

The X Factor judge knocked Alexandra Burke off the number one spot, pushing her song Bad Boys to number two.

But it wasn't all bad news for the former X Factor winner - her album Overcome is now number one in the album chart.

Cheryl said: "I'm just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it's number one."

She added: "I can't take this all in. It's hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face."

And Alexandra was also delighted with her album success.

She said: "Having a number one album is genuinely a dream come true. Life just keeps getting better and better.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has bought my album this week."

American superstar Whitney Houston was also celebrating - her single Million Dollar Bill went in at number five.

Like Cheryl, she also previewed her song on X Factor.
