I won a poetry competition

Press Packer Faheem gets his poetry award from poet Adam Foulds

Press Packer Faheem won an award for his poem about one of his heroes.

In his report Faheem tells us how it felt performing his poem and winning his prize.

"At school, I found out that the whole of our year group had to write a poem.

It had to be based on the theme of heroes/heroines.

My poem was about Barack Obama who at the time he was my hero.

Young Poet of the Year

They all got sent off to the people who were the ones who shortlisted 200 poems into just 20. I was in those 20 and one day I went to perform my poem at a festival called Flag Fen Eisteddfod. This was my chance to battle to become Peterborough Young Poet Of The Year.

It was my chance to shine. They asked me to perform my poem. I was the eighth or ninth person to perform it.

Pressure

Then, after all the performances and the long wait to hear the decision, the results were in. I was so nervous.

They announced three people in the top four and then I knew it.

It was now or never. Do or die and I felt the pressure. When they said my name I was jumping up and down. I was so excited.

First medal

Wow! What a day this was! I went to London to Westminster Abbey.

I stood right next to where Gordon Brown is, in the Houses of Lords and Houses Of Commons.

I got awarded a shield along with a first medal which was the main highlight of the day.

Loads of fun

Who would have thought a 10-year-old boy doing his homework could be up there on stage in Westminster Hall!

We had loads of fun. We went into the MPs room and we had the time of our lives."

Faheem, 10, Peterborough
