Album Review: The Saturdays - Wordshaker

The Saturdays

Release date

It's out now!

The style

This is The Saturdays' second album and it is arguably better than their debut CD, Chasing Lights, which went platinum. As you would expect this is pop music at its best.

There's a variety of fast numbers and slower ballads. The girls seem much more confident to take risks in this album as they experiment with electro synthesisers. But it's the edgy pop-rock tracks that stand out, and its definitely what the band seem most comfortable singing.

The hits

The album gets off to a thumping great start with Forever Is Over which has already been a number two UK smash. It's a pop-rock number with a soaring chorus and rumbling bass line. This is what The Saturdays are best at, catchy pop songs that will get you dancing!

Another standout track is Ego which sounds a lot like Lady GaGa's music. It's got great lyrics which you can learn quickly and has a cool electro sound to it.

But if it's a slower song you're after then definitely check out Deeper which is really soulful and has beautiful lyrics. This song was actually co-written by the band!

The misses

There aren't many songs that you'll want to skip past but Here Standing and No One are both pretty forgettable tracks.

Also the album ends with a rubbish song called 2AM which does let down what is otherwise a very solid album.

Will you still be humming it next week?

Definitely there are some amazing songs in here and they are all very, very catchy!

Will it make the charts?

Yes! The Saturdays have released another great album which will definitely reach the album charts. It's upbeat, easy to listen to and it will have you dancing!

This is a must for all fans of the band and anyone who is looking for a good quality pop album. There's something for everyone here and it proves that we still Just Can't Get Enough of this band!

NR rating:

Four out of five

Your Comments

"To be honest their new song is a disappointment. The Saturdays are better with funky tunes not sad ones. Out of all of them Vanessa did the worst in the music video. Sorry but for me it's two out of five."

Natalie, 10, Nottingham, England

"I think they are great but not as good as Cheryl Cole. Of course I love Cheryl Cole though, she has the same name as me. Anyway, I think The Saturdays are really good and they are a fun lot as well."

Cheryl, 13, Birmingham, England

"I love The Saturdays and I really really like Wordshaker especially Forever Is Over!"

Lucy, 9, Oxford, England

"I really like the latest single Forever Is Over. I keep singing it in my head. I really hope that one day their songs will make it to number one."

Emily, 11, Bradford, England

"Wordshaker is a formidable album, with it's lead single already a number two hit, it is destined to do well."

Alice, 12, Newcastle, England

"This is definitely some of The Saturdays' best work. The songs are really catchy!"

Zara, 14, Bradford, England

"The Saturdays are so amazing and so is their album."

Sharmin, 12, London, England

"I absolutely love The Saturdays, but their new album was definitely a let down. The only song I really like is Forever Is Over. The worst song is 2AM, I always switch my MP3 player off when I hear it!! Overall, I would give it 3/5."

Maryam, 12, Derbyshire, England

"I have not heard all of the album but have heard the new track and some others! These girls are fresh and hip and their music can be enjoyed anywhere!! They have great ideas and the likability factor!!"
