Cheryl Cole set for chart record

Cheryl Cole

It's a great week for X Factor judge Cheryl Cole as it looks as if her first solo single is set to become the biggest-selling track of the year.

It also means the Girls Aloud singer will knock her former X Factor student Alexandra Burke off the chart top spot.

First day sales of Cheryl's Fight For This Love, have beaten last week's first day sales of Alexandra's Bad Boys, the Official Charts Company said.

It comes after Cheryl performed the song on Sunday's X Factor results show.

About 14.8 million people were watching the show when Cheryl performed in front of her fellow judges, Simon Cowell and Dannii Minogue.

Some people have criticised Cheryl for miming some of her vocals and relying on a backing track.

But that doesn't seem to have stopped people rushing out to buy or download the tune.

Martin Talbot, from the Official Charts Company, said: "Her first day's sales are just amazing and put her in pole position to top the Official Singles Chart on Sunday.

"She is likely to set the sales standard by which everyone will be judged for the rest of the year in the run-up to Christmas."
