New apology in Strictly race row

Anton apologises on Strictly's spin-off show, It Takes Two

Strictly dancer Anton du Beke has made a public apology on TV after making a racist comment to dance partner Laila Rouass during training.

The pair appeared on Strictly's spin-off show, It Takes Two, so Anton could say sorry to Laila publicly.

He also apologised to Strictly fans saying he felt embarrassed and stupid.

Anton first apologised last weekend, but since then hundreds of people have complained to the BBC about his remarks and some said he should be sacked.

Laila says she's accepted Anton's apology and wants to move on.

During Friday's show Anton admitted his comments had been "a stupid thing to do".

"Now people are talking about that when they should be talking about the show, the great show that it is," he said.

"I'm mortified about it completely and Laila has been quite remarkably wonderful."

'Great time'

Laila said she didn't think Anton deserved to be sacked.

"Apart from the dancing he's taught me how to be gracious and how to laugh at silly things and we've just had such a great time and I want it to carry on," she said.

"It's just such a shame that this has happened and we want to move on."
