The 1940s style campsite
Press Packer Olivia spent six days at a farm, camping 1940s style!
Here she tells us what it was like:
"In August I went to stay at a 1940's-style guide camp for six nights at a farm. This is the third year it's been going and is arranged by the Heritage Trust Fund.
For the past two years my older sister Diana has attended, and every year came back raving about the activities and new friends she had met there.
To start with, I was a little worried about the early starts, staying in bell tents, a whole week cooking over an open fire and having to use a tin bath instead of a shower!
Challenge
And when it came to saying goodbye to my mobile phone and i-Pod for a week, it was a challenge. Also, skinning the rabbits for lunch was an amazing yet stomach-turning experience.
While we were there we worked on our land girl badges, which included grooming and mucking out the Suffolk Punch horses.
When we weren't working on the farm we either did our chores (that were completed in our patrols), knitted, or showed the visitors around our camp.
Amazing
Doing all of this with my best friend from home, Helena, and all of the new friends I got to know over the week was amazing.
At the end of the week, we watched a pig give birth to nine piglets which was incredible.
Another highlight was singing around the campfire clutching our mugs of hot chocolate.
I enjoyed every single moment and can't wait for the next camp so that I can see all of my new friends again."
