Nugent strikes in big Burnley win

David Nugent scores for Burnley

David Nugent made a brilliant debut for Burnley, bagging two late goals to earn his new team a 3-1 win over Sunderland.

Nugent is on-loan from Portsmouth, and made a big impact with Burnley's second and third goals at Turfmoor.

Graham Alexander had earlier given the home side the lead, before Darren Bent grabbed a leveller for Sunderland.

Arsenal got back into winning form in the league with a comfortable 4-0 triumph over Wigan Athletic, while Stoke just missed out on a big win.

Defender Thomas Vermaelen netted the first two goals for the home side, and then Emmanuel Eboue deflected in a shot for the Gunners' third goal. Cesc Fabregas netted the final goal of the afternoon.

Stoke denied late

Stoke were minutes from moving up to sixth place in the table after Dave Kitson gave them the lead against Bolton, but a late penalty meant the points were shared.

Matt Taylor slammed home that spot-kick to make the final score 1-1.
